Grameen Foundation, MTN Uganda and Google – The Grameen Foundation Application Laboratory (AppLab Uganda)

By creating the AppLab, Grameen Foundation set out to build a “learning and doing” laboratory to develop, test and scale services delivered over mobile phones that benefit the poor. It focuses on using widely available mobile phones to disseminate relevant and actionable information in domains such as health and agriculture to improve lives and livelihoods. The AppLab embraces an intensive, user-centric development process, innovates with sustainable business models and engages with strategic partners to both develop applications and achieve scale. Grameen Foundation, Google and MTN Uganda worked in a unique collaboration to launch the AppLab in Uganda.
